Houses

Part of being what I call “slow” is having a place that is “paid for”.  I have a very keen interest in retiring with three or four small homes that are paid off.  There are a few obstacles that prevent me from doing this:

  1. It is hard to build anything for less that $100,000 dollars these days, and I already own a $380,000 dollar home in the burbs.
  2. It is possible to get a house built less expensively if you can do a good portion of the labor, but I am not handy with traditional building methods.
  3. Traditional building methods take a long time, and my attention span is very short.
  4. Traditional building is boring and I like to think I am on the creative side, so I have no interest in traditional building methods.

In short, several years ago I began to explore other building methods.  So far I have not started my first project but I am thinking about beginning this year.  My first project will be a home made from Shipping Containers.  As part of the project I am going to begin by researching existing Shipping Container structures and posting about them.
